How have you changed since starting CrossFit Maroubra (CFM)?:
Core strength has improved dramatically as has my pain threshold. I can safely say at the ripe age of 39 I’m fitter than I’ve ever been. I’m also a convert to the 6am workout. Sets your day up perfectly.

What is your fitness background? What were you doing before CFM?:
Generally active lifestyle that involved running, indoor cricket, 5-a-side football. Prior to joining CFM I was aimlessly staring at mirrors and beefed-up blokes in Fitness First with little reward.

Favourite WOD or movement:
Helen – 3 Rounds of 400m, 21 kettlebell swings and 12 pull-pps

Least Favourite WOD or movement:
Mary – 20 minute AMRAP consisting of 5 handstand push-ups, 10 pistols, 15 pull-ups. ‘Fight Gone Bad’ can take a running jump also.

What are your goals this year? Where are you in terms of achieving them?:
I want to add a few kgs, sub 6-minute FRAN and 50 consecutive double-under skips. I’m a couple of months away from hitting these targets.

Any best CFM stories?:
Farmers walk with my 5-year-old daughter on my shoulders was quite memorable.

What advice do you have for people just getting started?:
Don’t try and be a hero from the outset. Get your technique right and focus on completing the range of movements to maximise your results.

Additional Comments: Sounds strange but pain can be addictive. Lap it up.
